How activation keys work
- Start a trial or buy a plan. We email you a .serokey file.
- Open the file, or choose it under Licence in SeroPayroll. That activates the app.
- The key is checked on your computer, offline. No sign-in is needed to run payroll.
- A key lasts 365 days. After that SeroPayroll becomes read-only: your records stay open and exportable until you renew.

Frequently asked questions
Does SeroPayroll need the internet to run payroll?
No. Once your key is installed, calculating, approving and posting pay runs, cheques, bank files and year-end slips all work offline. The app goes online to update itself, to check that your key has not been revoked, and to load new tax tables.
What happens when my key expires?
The app becomes read-only after 365 days. You can still open your company file, view every pay run and print or export your records; you cannot post a new pay run until you renew.
Where is my data?
On your computer, in an encrypted company file. Nothing is uploaded unless you turn on sync (the cloud edition).
I lost my key file.
