What this does

The catalogue is the list of kinds of pay, deductions and taxable benefits your company uses. Pay runs, stubs, reports and year-end slips all read from it. Each item says how income tax, CPP, EI and vacation pay apply.

Open the catalogue

  1. Go to Settings › Earnings and deductions.
  2. Choose a tab: Earnings, Deductions or Benefits.
  3. Choose Show switched off to include items that are off.

Built-in items

Every new company starts with these:

  • Earnings. Regular hours, Salary, Overtime, Double time, Statutory holiday pay, Statutory holiday premium, Vacation pay, Bonus, Commission, Retroactive pay, Taxable allowance, Non-taxable allowance, Expense reimbursement, Controlled tips, Pay in lieu of notice, Retiring allowance (eligible), Severance / retiring allowance, Sick pay and Other earnings.
  • Deductions. Registered pension plan, Group RRSP, Pooled registered pension plan, Union dues, Support order, Garnishment, CRA requirement to pay, Group insurance (employee share), Charitable donation, Advance repayment and Other deduction.
  • Benefits. Group term life insurance, Automobile standby and operating, Private health and dental premiums, Board and lodging, Low or no-interest loan, Taxable gift or award (non-cash), Parking and Cash taxable benefit.

Change a built-in item

A built-in item is marked Built-in. You can rename it and change its treatment. You cannot remove it or switch it off.

Switch off or remove an item

  1. Open the item's row menu.
  2. Choose Switch off or Remove.
  3. If the item is assigned to employees, it is switched off instead. The message says "{name} is assigned to employees, so it was switched off instead".

A switched-off item is kept for history but cannot be assigned. Choose Switch on to bring it back.

Good to know

  • You can select several items and switch off or delete them together.
  • Deleted items go to the Trash for 90 days. See Trash and restore.
  • The name shows on stubs and reports. The code is used inside pay records and cannot change later.
