What this does
Vacation pay is figured on the earnings that have Vacation pay base turned on. Each employee is set to be paid it either with every pay or when they take time off.
How an employee's vacation pay works
- Open the employee and choose the Pay tab.
- Under Vacation pay, choose:
- Accrue and pay when taken. The amount builds up in the time-off ledger and is paid when approved time off is paid, or on a final pay.
- Pay out on every pay. The amount is added to every pay as Vacation pay.
- If you pay more than the provincial minimum, enter a Vacation rate override (%). The higher of the two is used.
What the stub shows
If the template shows it, the stub has a vacation block for the employee's first vacation policy, named after the policy:
- Earned
- Paid out
- Balance owing
The figures are as the balance stood after that pay. A reprint of an older stub does not change when later pays are made.
Turn it on or off
Go to Settings › Stub template and tick or untick Vacation pay balance. The change applies to every stub printed, saved or emailed from then on, reprints included.
Good to know
- A final pay pays the whole remaining balance. See Time off: final pay payout.
- The journal posts vacation payable from the ledger. See Chart of accounts and mapping.
- A stub for an employee with no time-off policy has no vacation block.
