What this does
A social insurance number (SIN) and a bank account number are the most sensitive items in a payroll file. SeroPayroll shows them masked and asks before it shows them in full.
Show a number in full
- Open the employee. On the Profile tab, next to the SIN, or on the Banking tab, next to the account, choose Show.
- If the company has no users, the box "Confirm it's you" asks for the company file password.
- If the company has users, an administrator enters their own PIN. The box says what is about to be shown.
- The number appears.
- The History tab records "Viewed {what}", and with users it also says "Approved by {admin} for {asker}".
Who can
- Admin. Can show them, with their own PIN.
- Payroll. Cannot. An admin's PIN is needed.
- Read-only. Cannot.
Where numbers are masked
- On screens, with the last digits only.
- On T4 and T4A employee copies and on pay stubs, a masked SIN.
- Contractors' SINs are never shown in full.
Where the full SIN is used
The full SIN is written into the T4 and T4A XML files you upload to CRA. Keep those files safe.
Good to know
- A SIN and a bank number each have their own encryption inside the company file.
- Changing a number: type the new one. The old one stays masked.
- A SIN that starts with 9 is a temporary SIN. The app reminds you to check its expiry.
- A bank number is never saved in a draft.
