Bank originator setup

Set up the profile that tells your bank who is sending the direct deposit file.

What this does

A bank originator profile holds what your bank gave you when it enabled direct deposit: your originator ID, names, data centre and settlement account. Each deposit file uses one profile. Make one per bank.

Steps

  1. Go to Settings › Payment originators.
  2. Choose to add a profile.
  3. Pick the Bank: RBC Royal Bank, TD Canada Trust, TD Canada Trust (80-byte), BMO, Scotiabank, CIBC, Desjardins or Other institution (Standard 005).
  4. Enter the Originator ID. The page shows a hint if it does not match the bank's format.
  5. Enter the Short name (on statements) and the Long name.
  6. Enter the Destination data centre. It has five digits and comes from the bank's set-up letter.
  7. Enter the Settlement account: Institution, Transit and Account number. This is the company account that funds the deposits and receives returned items.
  8. Pick the Currency.
  9. Enter the Next file creation number. It goes up by one with every file. When you move from another system, match the bank's count.
  10. Turn on Default profile if this is the one to use most.
  11. Save.

Check the source

Each profile has Where these file rules come from. If the rules were checked against the bank's own published layout, the page says so. Still send a test file before the first live run.

Rules not confirmed with the bank show Send a test file first. These profiles stay usable. The Pay step and the deposit screen show the same warning.

Good to know

  • Saved settlement accounts show as •••1234 only. Leave the box blank to keep it.
  • A bank originator that has deposit batches cannot be deleted. Switch it off.
  • The file layout is Standard 005 of Payments Canada (CPA-005). TD also has its own 80-byte layout.
  • Changes need a licence that allows writes.
