Pay run leases

Only one computer edits a pay run at a time. Others see it read-only.

What this does

A pay run is shared work, so only one computer may change it at a time. The computer that opens the run takes a lease on it. Other computers see the run as read-only.

What you see

  • While another computer has it. "Being edited by {name} on {device}. This run is read-only here until they close it."
  • Offline. "Offline: a shared pay run can be changed only while online. It is read-only for now."
  • If this computer loses its hold. "This device lost its hold on the pay run, so it is read-only now."
  • If the lease cannot be taken. "Could not reserve this pay run: {message}"

In each case choose Try again after the other computer closes the run or you are online.

How it works

  1. When you open a pay run, your computer asks for a lease. It lasts 5 minutes.
  2. While the run is open, the app renews the lease.
  3. When you close the run, the lease is released.
  4. An expired lease can be taken by anyone.

What read-only means on the run

You cannot calculate, approve, pay, hold, correct, reverse, mark paid or change the grid. You can still view it.

Good to know

  • Everything else stays editable offline.
  • The pay runs list does not show leases.
  • A Viewer cannot take a lease.
  • A lease has no effect without the Cloud add-on.
