What this does
The Cloud add-on keeps a company in step on all the computers you sign in to. An accountant's laptop and office computer can work on the same company. A client can have the company on their own computer too. Each computer keeps its own full copy and works with no internet.
How it works
- Each computer has its own encrypted company file.
- Every change is sealed on your computer before it is sent. The sync service holds only scrambled data and what it needs to deliver it. It cannot read your payroll data.
- Changes go up as you work and come down when a company opens.
- When you open a company or sign in, the app first brings in everything other computers changed. The screen says "Updating from cloud… {count} changes". Then it sends your own changes.
Turn it on
The add-on is a separate subscription on the SeroPayroll website. When your licence carries it, the sync screens switch on by themselves. Without it, nothing is sent to the sync service and the sync screens are off.
The status badge
A small badge shows Synced, Syncing…, Offline ({count} waiting), Sync error, Signed out or On this device only. A number on it counts conflicts to review. Choose it to open Settings › Cloud sync. On a computer it is at the foot of the left menu. On a phone it is in the top bar.
Good to know
- Up to three computers per user.
- The sync service cannot reset a forgotten company password or read your data to help you.
- Sync settings are open to every role. Putting a company in the cloud, inviting people, resolving conflicts and saving a standalone copy are for admins.
