What this does
Without the Cloud add-on, the company file moves between computers by copying it. The .spr file is the only format. Files from earlier versions end in .spay and still open.
Export the file
- Open the company.
- Go to Settings › Data and security › Move to another computer. The same actions are in the company menu.
- Choose Export company file… and pick a place.
- The file is named with the date and time, for example
Acme-20261015-143000.spr. - A reminder says the password travels separately. Tick Don't remind me again if you wish.
Send by email
- Choose Send by email….
- On Windows, an unsent message opens in your mail program with the file attached. On a Mac, Mail opens with the file attached. On other systems, a blank message opens and a copy is saved for you to attach.
- Write the recipient and send. The password is not in the message. Give it by phone or in a different message.
Import on the other computer
- Copy the file to that computer.
- Open SeroPayroll and go to Settings › Data and security › Move to another computer, or use the company menu.
- Choose Import company file… and pick the file.
- The file is copied beside the other company files, unlocked with its password, opened and added to the list.
When an import is refused
If the same company is open here with changes at least as new as the file's, the import is refused. The message shows both dates. This protects newer work from being replaced by an older file. Export from the newer computer instead.
Good to know
- Work on one computer at a time and always continue from the newest copy. The file route does not merge changes made on two computers at the same time.
- To keep several computers in step by themselves, use the Cloud add-on. See What the Cloud add-on is.
- A file made on Windows opens on a Mac and in the browser edition, and the other way round.
