What this does
The browser edition cannot save to a folder on your computer. It keeps each company file in the browser's own storage for that site. Download company file gives you a real .spr file to keep.
Download a copy
- Open the company.
- Go to Settings › Data and security.
- Under Company file, choose Download company file.
- Save the .spr file. Keep it in a safe place with your other backups.
Load a downloaded file
- On the Welcome screen choose Open a company file….
- Pick the .spr file.
- Enter the company password.
The same file also opens in the Windows or macOS app.
What can erase the browser's copy
- Clearing the browser's site data or cookies.
- Using a different browser, a different browser profile or a private window. Each has its own storage.
- Some browsers remove storage for sites you have not visited for a long time.
The Welcome screen reminds you: download a copy before clearing browser data.
Good to know
- There are no folder backups in the browser edition. Download copies often, for example after each pay run.
- The browser cannot send email. Stubs are saved as PDF files instead.
- Your account and licence are separate from the company file. Signing in again does not bring back company files that were cleared.
