What this does
The browser edition keeps company files in the browser's storage. If that storage is cleared, or you use another browser, the companies are gone from that browser.
Steps
- Check you are in the same browser, the same browser profile, and not in a private window.
- Check the address is the same site as before.
- Look for a downloaded .spr file. It may be in your Downloads folder.
- On the Welcome screen choose Open a company file… and pick it. Enter the company password.
- If you have a cloud company, use Join a cloud company with the company password or an invite code. See Invite people and join a cloud company.
- If you have no copy, look for an exported file, an email attachment, or a copy made in the Windows or macOS app.
If there is no copy
The data cannot be recovered. We do not hold your company files. Create the company again and re-enter the data.
Prevent it
- Choose Download company file in Settings › Data and security after every pay run.
- Keep the downloaded files with your other backups.
- Consider using the Windows or macOS app for company files you cannot afford to lose.
Good to know
- Signing in again does not bring files back. Your account and your files are separate.
- The Welcome screen reminds you to download a copy before clearing browser data.
- Some browsers remove storage for sites you have not visited for a long time.
