What this does
Stubs go through your own mail server. If a send fails, the message tells you which part to check.
Messages and fixes
- "Email is not set up." Fill in Settings › Email.
- "The mail server refused the user name or password." Re-enter the user name and password. Many providers need an app password instead of your normal one.
- "Could not reach the mail server. Check the host, port and connection." Check the server name, the port and your internet connection. Make sure a firewall does not block the port.
- "The mail server offers no secure connection." Change Security to STARTTLS (port 587) or SSL/TLS (port 465).
- "The mail server refused the message." Check the From address. Many providers accept only your own address.
- "An address is not valid." Fix the employee's email.
- "The browser edition cannot send email." Save the PDF and attach it yourself.
Steps
- Go to Settings › Email.
- Check each box under Mail server and Sender.
- Under Test, enter your own address and choose Send test email.
- When the test arrives, send the stubs again.
For a single employee
Stubs are skipped, and listed under Not emailed, if the employee has no email address, an invalid address, or no date of birth (or employee number) for the PDF password. Add what is missing on the employee's record, or print or save the stub.
Good to know
- The mail server password is encrypted in the company file.
- Look in the employee's spam folder if the app says it sent.
- Stubs can always be printed, saved to a folder or downloaded as one PDF.
