Email (SMTP) and stub delivery

Set up your own mail server, send a test message, and choose how stubs reach employees.

What this does

SeroPayroll sends stubs through your own mail server. It uses SMTP, and only when you press send. Your email provider's help pages list the settings.

Steps

  1. Go to Settings › Email.
  2. Under Mail server, enter Server (host) and Port.
  3. Pick Security: None (local relay only), STARTTLS (port 587) or SSL/TLS (port 465).
  4. Enter the User name and Password. The password is kept encrypted in the company file.
  5. Under Sender, enter From name, From address and, if you want, Reply-to address (optional).
  6. Under Test, enter Send the test to and choose Send test email.
  7. The message says "Test email sent to {address}."

To replace the stored password, type a new one. To delete it, choose Remove the stored password.

Other ways to deliver stubs

On the Stubs step you can also Print all, Save all to a folder or Download all (one PDF). See Pay the run and make stubs.

If email fails

The messages are:

  • "Email is not set up."
  • "The mail server refused the user name or password."
  • "Could not reach the mail server. Check the host, port and connection."
  • "The mail server offers no secure connection."
  • "The mail server refused the message."

See Email is not sending.

Good to know

  • The browser edition cannot send email.
  • The password is encrypted, and it travels with the company file to other computers.
  • Stub emails get "[TRIAL]" in the subject under a trial licence.
  • The app contacts your mail server only. Nothing goes to SeroPayroll's servers.
