What this does
A pay group is the people paid on one schedule. A department groups people for reports and the journal export. A location sets the province, workers' compensation account and employer health tax for the people who work there.
Pay groups
- Go to Settings › Pay groups and add one.
- Enter the Pay group name.
- Pick the Pay frequency: weekly, biweekly, semimonthly or monthly.
- Enter First period ends and Pay date, days after period end.
- Enter Default hours per period for hourly staff.
- Pick the Payroll account, the CRA account used.
- Save. The list shows the next period, for example "Next: {start} to {end}, paid {payDate}".
To change a schedule later, see Change a pay group's schedule.
Departments
- Go to Settings › Departments and add one.
- Enter the Department name and a Code.
Locations
- Go to Settings › Locations and add one.
- Enter the Location name, Province, address, city and postal code.
- Enter the WCB account, WCB classification and WCB rate per $100.
- Tick Registered for employer health tax and enter the EHT account.
The province decides income tax, CPP or QPP, EI or QPIP, and employment standards for the people at that location. It also sets the health tax and workers' compensation schedules.
Switch off or delete
- Choose Switch off to hide one. A switched-off item stays for history.
- A pay group, department or location with employees cannot be deleted. The message says "Show employees". Move them first, using Bulk edit.
- Deleted items go to the Trash for 90 days.
Good to know
- Employees are put in a group, department and location on their Employment tab.
