What this does
You open one company at a time. The company switcher at the top of the left menu lists the companies this computer knows. The Welcome screen lists them too.
Open a company
- On the Welcome screen, choose a company under Recent companies. Or choose Open a company file… and pick a .spr file. Company files from earlier versions end in .spay and open the same way. If the file sits in a OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive or iCloud Drive folder, SeroPayroll warns you once; see Company files and cloud sync folders.
- The Open {name} box asks for the Password or recovery key.
- Choose to open. You can tick Remember on this device.
Switch companies
- Choose the company name at the top of the left menu.
- Use Filter companies if the list is long.
- Choose another company. The current one closes.
The same menu has Open file…, New company, Manage companies…, and Switch user and Sign out when the company has users.
Close a company
Choose Close company in the company menu.
When a file is missing
The list shows "File not found — locate or forget". Choose Locate… to point to the file's new place, or Forget to remove it from the list. The file itself is not touched.
Messages you may see
- "That password or recovery key does not open this file." Check for typing errors, and see Lost password or recovery key.
- "This company is open in another window or on another computer. Close it there first." See A company says it is open elsewhere.
- "This is not a SeroPayroll company file, or it is damaged."
- "This file was saved by a newer version of SeroPayroll. Update the app to open it."
Good to know
- Pressing Ctrl+K opens a search box to jump to a screen, an employee or a pay run.
- A company file in a folder you move or rename stays openable. Use Open a company file….
