Getting started

Sign in and the inactivity sign-out

How signing in works, and how the app signs you out when nobody uses it.

On this page

What this does

SeroPayroll asks you to sign in before it shows anything else. When nobody uses the app for a set time, it signs out and closes the open company, so a left-open screen does not stay open to anyone passing by.

  1. Start SeroPayroll. If no one is signed in, the Sign in screen opens.
  2. Enter your Email and Password, then choose Sign in.
  3. The dashboard opens. If you were signed out by inactivity, the company you had open opens again.

On the same screen you can Create account, Start 14-day free trial, choose Forgot password? or choose I have a key file. That last link only remembers that you have a key file. You still sign in first.

Choose the inactivity time

  1. Open a company.
  2. Go to Settings › Data and security.
  3. Under Sign out after inactivity, choose 5, 10, 15, 30 or 60 minutes, or Never.

The default is 15 minutes in the browser edition and 30 minutes on a computer. The choice belongs to this device.

What happens when the time runs out

  • The app signs out and closes the company.
  • Records you saved stay saved. Forms you had not saved are dropped.
  • If a window or browser tab was hidden for longer than the time, it also signs out when you come back to it.
  • When you sign in again, the company that was open reopens if its password is remembered on this device. If not, the app asks for the company password.

Sign out yourself

Choose Sign out at the bottom of the left menu. The app asks first. On a phone, use Settings › Account.

Good to know

  • Signing out leaves your licence on the computer.
  • You can use the app with no internet after you have signed in. See Work offline and the 30-day check-in.
  • A shared computer should use a short inactivity time.

See it in your own numbers.
