What this does
Your payroll data stays on your computer, so you can work with no internet. The licence needs to check in online about once a month to confirm it is still valid and that your computers fit the seat count.
How it works
- When you activate a licence, the app confirms it with the licence service.
- Each time the app starts and finds the internet, it checks in again.
- The check-in stores a date that says "next check-in by". It is 30 days after the last one.
- Without the internet, you can keep working until that date.
- After 30 days with no check-in, the app becomes read-only until it checks in.
Check in by hand
- Connect to the internet.
- Go to Settings › Licence.
- Under Check-in you see "Checked in {date} · next by {date}".
- Choose Check in now. The message says "Checked in. Next check-in by {date}".
What the check-in sends
It sends the key identifier, a computer identifier, the computer name, the platform and the app version. It sends no payroll data. See What leaves your computer, and when.
Good to know
- Not being able to reach the service is never treated as a refusal. Only a clear "no" from the service, such as a revoked key or a full seat count, makes the app read-only at once.
- The app also fetches a list of withdrawn keys once each time it starts and is online. It keeps the last good copy.
- If the licence service has a problem, the 30 days count from the last successful check-in.
- The licence end date is checked on your computer every start. A clock moved back by more than a day shows "Needs check".
- Read-only still lets you open, view, print, export and back up.
