What this does
An activation key is a long text that starts with SP1-. It proves your licence. The app checks it on your computer, so it works without the internet. A .serokey file holds the same key.
Normally you do not type a key
When you sign in, the app gets your account's licence and activates it. A key is only needed for a key file you were sent, or if the automatic step fails.
Add a key
You must be signed in first.
Paste the key:
- Go to Settings › Licence.
- Paste the text into Activation key.
- Choose Activate. The message says "Licence activated. Full mode until {date}".
Use a key file:
- Go to Settings › Licence.
- Choose Activate from file (.serokey) and pick the file.
Double-click the file: on a computer where SeroPayroll is installed, double-click the .serokey file. The app opens on the Licence page. If you are not signed in, it waits. Sign in, and the key activates right after.
If the key is refused
- "That is not a SeroPayroll key": you did not copy all of it.
- "This key did not pass verification": it was mistyped or changed.
- "This key needs a newer version": update the app.
- "This key expired on {date}": paste your renewal key.
- "This key has been withdrawn": the key was refunded or reported as shared. Contact us or buy a new licence.
Lost your key
In Settings › Licence, enter your email under Get a key and choose Lost your key? Resend. The reply is the same for every address, so it does not reveal whether an address has a key.
Good to know
- The licence page shows plan, edition, licensee, email, issue and end dates, and the limits.
- A key you sign in with can also be an older key file. The app asks the licence service to count the computer.
- Keep the .serokey file as a backup.
