What this does
Import creates many employees from one CSV file. The app matches your columns by their headings, shows a preview and skips rows that have problems.
Steps
- Go to Employees and choose Import CSV. On an empty list, choose Import from CSV.
- Choose Download the template to get a file with the right headings, or use your own CSV.
- Choose Choose a CSV file… and pick the file.
- Under Columns, check each match. For a column you do not need, choose Ignore this column.
- Read the Preview. It shows how many employees are ready and how many rows need fixing.
- Fix the file and choose Check again if needed.
- Choose Import {count} employees. The message says how many were imported.
What the checks say
- "Use a date like 2026-01-05."
- "Use an amount like 1234.56."
- "Use a number."
- "Use yes or no."
- "Use salary or hourly."
- "Use a two-letter code such as ON."
- "No pay group has this name." The same applies to departments and locations. Create them first in Settings.
- "Appears more than once in this file."
- "Institution, transit and account are all needed."
Each flagged row shows its line number. Rows with problems are skipped.
Good to know
- Create pay groups, departments and locations before you import. Names must match.
- After the import, add tax claims and recurring items on each employee. Add opening balances if employees joined this year.
- A bad row does not stop the good rows.
- To import prior year-to-date figures, see Year-to-date opening balances and adjustments.
