Remittances

CRA remittances (PD7A)

How the CRA row for each period is worked out, and how your remitter type sets the schedule.

What this does

The CRA remittance for a period holds the CPP contributions (employee and employer), the EI premiums (employee and employer) and the income tax withheld. The PD7A is CRA's remittance voucher. SeroPayroll gives you a worksheet with the same figures.

Steps

  1. Go to Remittances.
  2. Filter to CRA, or find the row "Canada Revenue Agency · RP{reference}".
  3. Open it. Read the figures.
  4. Pay CRA through your bank or CRA's service with the amounts shown. Use the Total due and the due date.
  5. Choose Mark paid and record how you paid. See Mark a remittance paid.

Your remitter type

Set it in Settings › Company, under CRA accounts. The choices are:

  • Quarterly
  • Regular (monthly)
  • Accelerated, threshold 1 (twice a month)
  • Accelerated, threshold 2 (up to four times a month)

The schedule and due dates follow the type. The row shows the rule, for example "CRA remitter type: Regular (monthly)".

If no CRA payroll account with a remitter type is on file, the app uses the regular monthly schedule and says so: "Add it in Settings › Company."

Several CRA accounts

If you remit under several payroll accounts, each account has its own rows. Pay groups use an account. Set this under Settings › Pay groups.

Good to know

  • The app does not file anything with CRA. It gives you the amounts and due dates.
  • The employer's EI premium is shown with its multiplier, such as × 1.4, or the reduced rate for an employee in a premium reduction plan.
  • CPP and EI employer amounts are part of the CRA total.
  • Bank CSV exports the open CRA rows for a bank portal: Agency, Account number, Period end, Amount and Due date. It is not available under a trial licence.
