What this does
A correction fixes an approved or paid pay. The run is priced again as it should have been, and only the difference from the original is posted.
Steps
- Open the approved or paid run.
- Choose More actions, then Correct.
- Read "Correct this run" and choose Start correction. The new run starts with the pays as they were.
- Untick anyone whose pay was right.
- Change what was wrong.
- Choose Calculate, review, then Approve.
The correction uses the original pay date and the original starting year to date. It is kept with the original tax year. The note on the run says "This run corrects an earlier pay."
What posts
Only the difference, code by code, net of earlier corrections of the same run. If the difference is a refund of tax or contributions, the amounts are negative.
Annual maximums
If a later pay already brought CPP, CPP2, EI, QPP or QPIP to the maximum, the correction is capped so the year ends on the maximum. A warning shows how much was cut.
Good to know
- A correction changes remittances. If the original period was already paid, an adjustment row (plus or minus) goes in the agency's next remitting period. See Remittance adjustments after a correction.
- You cannot edit an approved run. Correct or reverse it.
- You can also start a correction from Pay Runs › New pay run by choosing Correction and the run under "Which run needs correcting?".
- The earnings review (PIER) fix is a special correction. See Earnings review (PIER).
