What this does

A final pay is the last pay of someone who left. It pays salary to their last day and the vacation pay owed. When you approve it, the app makes a Record of Employment draft.

Before you start

Record the termination first. Open the employee, choose the Employment tab and choose Terminate. See The Employment tab.

Steps

  1. From the terminated employee's page, choose Start final pay. Or go to Pay Runs › New pay run and choose Final pay.
  2. Under "Who left?" pick the employee. The list shows the employee number and last day worked.
  3. The period is the one that holds the last day worked. Salary is prorated to that day and vacation pay owed is paid out.
  4. Choose Create run.
  5. Add any hours or amounts, such as pay in lieu of notice or a retiring allowance.
  6. Calculate, review, approve and pay.
  7. After approval, a message says an ROE draft was made, with the last day paid and the reason.

Good to know

  • If nobody has a termination recorded, the list says "Nobody has a termination recorded."
  • The vacation payout is the whole time-off ledger balance, for every year, plus the accrual of this pay. See Time off: final pay payout.
  • Pay in lieu of notice and severance have their own earnings with their own tax treatment. Check them in the catalogue.
  • Read-only users cannot start a final pay.
  • The draft ROE is under Year-End › Records of Employment. See Records of Employment.
