What this does

Calculate prices every employee in the run with the tax tables for the pay date's year. It adds the rows that depend on rules, such as holiday pay and overtime.

Steps

  1. On Hours and earnings, choose Calculate.
  2. The run moves to Calculated.
  3. Go to Review and approve.

What Calculate adds

  • Salary for the period, prorated to the last day worked on a final pay.
  • Statutory holiday pay for holidays in the period, by the provincial rule and the employee's Statutory holidays setting.
  • Overtime split from regular hours by the provincial rule, when Auto OT is on.
  • Vacation pay, by the employee's vacation setting.
  • Recurring items from the employee's Pay tab.
  • Time-off pay for approved time off in the period.
  • Taxes and statutory deductions: federal and provincial tax, CPP or QPP, EI or QPIP, and employer costs such as EHT, HSF and WCB.

These appear as rows marked "(calculated)", "split from hours" or "Statutory holiday: {name} ({date})".

When Calculate cannot price someone

The employee shows Not calculated with the reason. The run cannot be approved until you fix it or take that employee out.

Good to know

  • The tax tables must load. The dashboard shows "Tax tables". If they cannot load, no pay can be calculated.
  • Every edit to hours or amounts needs a new calculation.
  • A pay uses the year of its pay date for tax.
  • Year-to-date figures decide when CPP, EI and the other yearly maximums stop.
